All equipment purchased with University funds should be returned to SPIA Computing Services. Portable equipment (iPads, iPhones, and laptops) or any equipment taken home should be dropped off at 003 Robertson Hall. Computer Services is open Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. A Mac specialist will securely wipe the device after you drop the equipment off; you do not have to be present.


Before returning an Apple device, please be sure to sign out of your iCloud/Apple ID as follows. Be sure to have an Internet connection before proceeding.



Sign out on your Mac

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
  2. Click Apple ID, then click Overview. If you use macOS High Sierra or earlier, click iCloud.
  3. Click Sign Out.
  4. If you are returning the device to SPIA, do NOT click Keep a Copy of any data on this Mac.


Next Steps
  • In a browser, go to AppleID.apple.com -> Devices.
  • Locate the device, click on it, and click on Remove from account. The following warning box will appear. Click Remove this [device].
  • The window below will appear. Click on Remove this MacBook Pro to confirm.




Sign out on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Go to Settings > [your name]. 
  2. Scroll down to the bottom.
  3. Tap Sign Out.
  4. Enter your Apple ID password and tap Turn Off.
  5. Turn on the data that you want to keep a copy of on your device.
  6. Tap Sign Out.
  7. Tap Sign Out again to confirm that you want to sign out of iCloud


Next Steps
  • In a browser, go to AppleID.apple.com -> Devices.
  • Locate the device, click on it, and click on Remove from account. The following warning box will appear. Click Remove this [device].



  • Go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings. Click on Erase iPhone.
